This is the third part of our escapades in Puerto Galera. The past two days were eventful but not compared on what happened during Black Saturday. We did a mini photo shoot at the roof top of White Beach resort and the pictures turn out well. We watched and recorded the fire dance presentation. Finally we hit the waves and enjoyed the beach and involved ourselves with a little raffle with prizes out of the ordinary. We partied all night long at Mikko’s Bar and we all got drunk and did things I could’ve never imagined we are capable of. And without further adieu here is our story.

Day 3 April 23, 2011 (Black Saturday)

It was early morning and I have a massive headache because of the hangover dealt by Tanduay Ice and Mindoro Sling. Most of my friends are already up and taken their breakfast. Luckily Hanz haven’t had his breakfast yet so I asked him to go with me. I had rice chao fan of Chowking, I’m really starving and I think Hanz just had buko shake from Fruitas.

When we came back they are just fooling around and exchanging jokes and remembering the things that we did last night especially the 7 Waterfalls sessions. Derick then suggested that we take pictures of ourselves since we have only a day to take snapshots of our memory here in Galera. In preparation for the pictorial, Euan wore his red contact lens that several times irritated his eyes. The red contact lens created an effect of vampire look on Euan so I decided to take pictures of him coming out from the closet for an eerie look but it turned out really funny because of the poses he made. Me, Hanz, James, Euan, and Derick decided to take it to another level by taking pictures on the rooftop where the sun radiates scorching heat but it is the perfect place to take our out of this world poses hahaha! I think it was around 12nn or 1pm. Enzo and Ton don’t feel like joining us because they are still sleepy so we went to the rooftop. We started to take pictures and it was fun. Hanz finally had his chance to execute his winning pose that he researched on the Internet. And for me I was able to do a jump shot that is really cool. Derick’s camera is really something, that’s the first time I held a camera that can zoom in 30x and it is without zooming lens. Hanz’s camera on the other hand is ok… End of sharing hahahaha!!! After the photo shoot we went back to the room. We just waited around 3pm so that we can head to the beach and have our yearly ritual, the Banana Boating.

In the afternoon we decided to hit the beach. There are a lot of people gathered around different booths, I guess they making the most out of their trip as well. While we are waiting for our turn in riding the Banana Boat we hang out in the booth of EZ and Frenzy. A man there tried to sell us a bag of goodies. It has towel, baller wrist band, some condoms and EZ, in these bags there is a piece of heart that will be used for the raffle later. If these hearts matches any of the heart tattooed on the models then we will win a thousand pesos and added gift packs. Hanz and Euan purchased each. Then it’s our turn for the Banana Boat. Unfortunately we have other people coming with us since there are only seven of us and the capacity of the boat is 10 so they need to fill those slots. I even remembered what Hanz said that we need to be careful for the three strangers are overweight hahaha! So we get on the boat and it started towing us towards the vast sea. It is really beautiful when you are looking at Puerto Galera in this view. The clean blue water keeps on splashing on our faces, the cool breeze of the wind can be felt through the skin, and the wave are just in rhythm… while in this thought the Speedboat pulling us makes a sharp turn and then suddenly we started flipping to the water. I know I kicked someone but I didn’t pay attention because we are laughing so hard we barely felt the pain when somebody hit you or goes over you, it’s just those moment that you want to laugh and laugh and laugh making you weak and you can’t barely get on the Banana Boat again. The speedboat did it two more times and we are totally exhausted. It lasted more than 25 minutes but it is worth it.

After riding the Banana Boat we hang out at the beach and we took a few more pictures for souvenirs. We also saw Aljheal and Oliver on the sand. There is already music playing and then Aljheal saw me dancing he challenged me for a dance showdown on the beach. We kept on laughing at each other and Hanz saw the showdown and it was crazy, we are making all sorts of movement and Aljheal kept on taunting me to give more but I had enough hahaha. We walked around the beach and watched a few people playing volleyball. While they are watching I decided to stay in the water for a while then I noticed something floating a shore. I grabbed it, fortunately it is not shit, it’s a thousand pesos. Hahaha I said to myself we will have a very good time later. I took a few pictures of the sunset and it was amazing, although it reminded me of the coming end of our vacation. We head back to our room and ready ourselves for the last party of our whole Galera trip.

We decided to eat first at Manalo’s Restaurant. While we are on our way we saw the fire dancers performing. I asked for Derick’s camera and caught their performance on video. After filming the fire dance we went ahead and finished our dinner. After eating we watched Choknat and other standup comedian. They are hosting the show sponsored by Frenzy and EZ. We stayed and watched for a while and we had fun. Some of the phrases that I will never forget are “Pabona ng Taon” and “1, 2 ready”. Now the show is almost done when Choknat announced that the last raffle is for those who have halves of the hearts, she asked them to come on stage and check if it matches the one tattooed on the models. Euan and Hanz hesitated to come up the stage having a fear of being insulted in front of many people. So I asked for the heart and go on stage, luckily it is a match and we won an extra 1000 pesos plus goodies.

We headed to Mikko’s Bar to enjoy our last night and we are planning drink and party till we drop. We saw Ateh and asked for a table and she immediately gave us a good spot. There is loud music, beautiful people everywhere and of course booooozeee!!! It is our night to unwind, to leave all problems behind and party… and I really mean party haaarrrddd!!! During the night we saw friendly faces, there’s Ian, Aljheal and Oliver, Allen, Kiko, Jeff and few more friends. Drink dance and enjoy, we literally knock ourselves out. After a few drinks it is as if the liquor is not getting into me but after a few more shots it finally hit me… BIG TIME!!! I was so drunk that I have very little memory of what happened that night. All I can remember is that, I talked to a couple and I really don’t know what I am saying and I remembered his partner telling me “Are you aware that you are talking to my partner”, I think I replied “Well the hell I care, I am not hitting on your partner”, then I left. One more thing, Hanz told me that a barangay council stopping me in throwing chairs. And then the inevitable happened, I threw up so many times that even my friends almost got into a fight when a girl tried to ridicule me. Haha I am just so lucky that they are there to carry me back to our room. Really I’ve never been so drunk in my life, only in Galera hahaha. Well that finally ended our last night in Puerto Galera and there is no moment that I regret.

Here is the second installment of our trip to Puerto Galera. Nothing much happened on the first day but the second day is more eventful. We will be exploring Jurassic cave and know more about its rich background. I will discuss on how to bargain for really good souvenir items and novelties. Lastly, I will share to you and introduce a drinking game called 7 Waterfalls.

Day 2 April 22, 2011 (Good Friday)

It was 10 am in the morning and I am awakened by the sound of Euan’s voice, they are already awake. I don’t know what they are talking about because I am half awake. I am still drowsy and lack sleep, maybe because I went to bed a little late last night because I hang out a bit longer in the beach with Oliver and Aljheal while having a couple of drinks. Anyway, I overheard that they are talking about someone being caught on Jurassic. For those who don’t know, Jurassic is a part of Puerto Galera can be found way beyond the rocky beaches on west side if you’re facing the beach. Now the controversial part is that during night-time, many of the homosexuals staying in Galera are using the cave to meet and exercise sexual intercourse while inside the cave. I would like to hear more about the barangay officials arresting that homo but I am starving so I asked them if they had breakfast. Derick and Euan just had fruit shakes and most of us are already hungry so I went up and prepped myself and we headed to Manalo’s Restaurant.

Toooon Tulog!!!

At Manalo’s we enjoyed the free Wi-Fi, at first we didn’t know that there is an available wireless connection up until Hanz brought his iPad and started tapping away. We are able to update our status on facebook, emails, and shared some pictures too. The food at Manalo’s were amazing, their home-made fried chicken is very tasty, crunchy on the outside but soft and flavorful in the inside. They also made awesome soups and salads especially the side dish made from carrots, cabbages, onions, and dressings it was to die for. Some of us ordered pork kebob and grilled squids. The feast is just mouth-watering and on top of it the prices is so damn affordable.

Most of us headed back to room because they cannot bear the heat outside but for Hanz and me it is another opportunity to bargain with merchants of the souvenir shops. It’s quite easy to get good items in a cheaper price. You just need to know how to play along with the merchants and eventually their prices will start sliding down. Example, if the t-shirt with Puerto Galera print are priced as 120 pesos, you can still cut this up to 90 to 100 pesos by mentioning that the same design is sold lower on the other booth. A little acting that you would go back to the other store will do the trick and I assure you the prices will start sliding down.  After a little shopping we went back to the room to get some more sleep but on our way back I saw this beautifully hand painted henna tattoo at the back of a guy. It was a pair of wings and said to Hanz that I would like to have the same. Hanz disapproved it for it will only itch and turn nasty when it is about to be erased and besides if henna get into our bed covers I’ll be paying a fine of more than 1000 pesos so I agreed.

In the afternoon we still don’t feel like swimming at the beach so we’ve decided to play 2 Hits (tong-its with bets) a common card game played by gamblers here in the Philippines. After a few rounds it started to get boring then I remembered that Derick and I bought a bottle on Grand Matador brandy last night thinking of getting a drink in our room right after the sounds were halted by barangay officials. We didn’t have the opportunity to drink it so I challenged them to a game of 7 Waterfalls. For the description and rules about this game click HERE! We have so much fun and game was really exciting, too bad Hanz missed it because he need to do something but still it was a blast. After drinking half of the brandy we decided to stop and call it quits because almost all of us are already tipsy. So we rested a while and then prepare ourselves to go out in our second beach party night. That night we decided to eat somewhere else near the booth of C2. The food doesn’t taste as good as Manalo’s but it was edible enough to fill our stomach.

Since most of us are already tired and slightly intoxicated we spent much of our time watching television. American idol, Glee, and Prince of Persia are being televised. Some of us including me quickly drowsed off and rested for a while. At exactly 12 midnight, my friends woke me up so I hurriedly fix myself only to know that there are still no bars playing music anywhere. I even envied our neighbors on the other side of the resort because they have their own sound system, strobe lights, and loud music as if they have their very own private party.

We went outside and to our surprise is almost pitch black and dead silent. The only thing that you can hear is the loud chit-chat of people trying to enjoy themselves despite that there is no loud music playing. Although drinking was allowed it is not the same, unlike last year where everybody party wildly at the beach and the bar. With that scene we decided to continue playing 7 Waterfalls but this time we are going to do it at the beach and we will be drinking Mindoro Sling. Even without sounds we had a lot of fun and we just enjoyed each other’s company. We also saw Ian, he’s our friend long time ago that we rarely see, he introduced us to some of his friends. After a few more drinks we decided to head back to our room and rest. We enjoyed the night but still we are very disappointed to the way the management in Galera prevented us from having a good night fun. – End of day 2.

Four in the morning is the time we’ve decided to meet at the terminal of Buendia. We are all excited to reach our destination that is always a year in the making. Summer destination for every year during Lenten season for us is Galera. It is not the best place you can go for a summer vacation but for us it’s like the perfect place where we can unwind and forget about the life we have in the city. It’s like we are living a whole new world when we are staying here.

Day 1 April 21, 2011 (Maundy Thursday)

We all assembled at KFC Buendia and ate our early morning breakfast. The six of us Hanz, Yuan, Derick, Ton, Enzo and me decided to take the bus bound to Batangas port while James will just follow us there because he is having difficulty getting a bus to Buendia. After a small chit-chat and a few fooling around we stepped into the bus and off we go to Batangas Port. Almost all of us slept during the trip and after almost two hours we’ve arrived in our destination. Just like last year, the management in Batangas port is so unorganized. We are dragged in this very long queue just to get our ticket. It took us almost two hours before we can get into the waiting area where we waited another hour or two before we board the boat. James already caught up with us and there we waited in vain and then finally at 10:30 am we boarded the boat and our trip to Puerto Galera started. As I remember the trip went well at first but when we are already half-way our trip the waves started pounding our boat. Massive waves started to hit and water started to pour into the boat. I can still picture the look on Enzo’s face when salt water splashed down his face hahaha!!!

At noon, we finally arrived in White Beach Puerto Galera. There are already a lot of people sun bathing, eating grilled foods, and swimming in the clear blue waters of the beach. We are all starving but we need to check in first so we went ahead and checked into VM-Resort. Hanz’s PR skills managed to cut our room rent by half, one of his seaman friend paid for the reservation fee, cool eh?!? So we settled in, unpacked and freshen up, some of us bathe because it was so freaking’ hot and almost all of us are sweating even if the air conditioning unit is in full blast.

So we took our late lunch in one of our favorite fast food chain in Galera, “Foodtrip sa Galera”. They offer a variety of dishes. Tapsilog, tocilog, daing na bangus, itlog na pula, sausages, fried chicken, barbecue, sandwiches, and a lot more. And what I love about their meals is that they offer unlimited garlic rice. The prices are affordable too and they are open 24 hours.  On top of it, their waiters and waitresses are so accommodating and attentive, they value good customer service.

After a fulfilling meal, some of us head back to the room to get some rest. I and Hanz decided to start purchasing pasalubong. I personally shopped for myself because I brought too little wardrobe because I am planning on wearing sandos sold in Galera.  After shopping we headed back to the room to take some rest.

We didn’t get in the water on the first day instead we walked around the beach and check out the establishment and booths where we can hang out later. Of course walking in the beach would not be complete without the fruit shake of Fruitas and banana que. We also went to C2 Green Tea’s booth where they premium items just by purchasing their products. There is water pouch, floaters, bottle strap, mini tent, and of course my personal favorite the “poi” (I purchased 2 of these hehehe).

There is also the stage of San Miguel Beer and Tanduay where mini concert are held. The frenzy and EZ lubricant booth where they offer special prizes just buy purchasing. We also manage to see the Take the Test booth promoted by K Brosas too bad though we didn’t get the chance to see her. At the beach a lot of people are playing volleyball, covering each other with sands, building sand castle, sun bathing, dancing, have their hair braided, and having a massage. It’s like we are in total paradise where relaxation is the theme and everywhere there is food… food… FOOOOOOD!!!

Night time, we had our dinner at Manalo’s Restaurant where they serve super tasty crab and corn soup and calamari. We watched a couple of fire poi dancing at the beach. We ready ourselves to party parteeee!!! We headed at Mikkos Bar where we met “Ateh”. Ateh is a gay waitress and she assisted us in getting a good table to have our drink of the dreaded Mindoro Sling. We had a lot of fun, so many people dancing, cheering, and having a good time. We met a couple of familiar faces Aljheal and Oliver enjoying their drinks together with their friends.  The night is so wild, the beach is too crowded, and music is just nirvana. Unfortunately, with respect to the Lenten season the sounds were cut off at 2am in the morning. It is already Good Friday and the barangay officials in Galera directed the bars and establishment to observe silence. Disappointed just like the other crowd just finished our drinks and headed back to our room and call it the day. – End of day 1.
